Anthem thinks TNA Wrestling is, early 00's, WCW!!! Scott D'Amore's contract terminated!!!
Yesterday it was announced that TNA Wrestling President Scott D'Amore's contract was terminated and that he'd been replaced by someone from Anthem!!!
Scott (and originally Don Callis, as well, before he left to join AEW full time) managed to turn TNA/IMPACT Wrestling from a company on the verge of becoming yet another asset to the WWE tape library to a promotion that presented amazing shows and getting them, comfortably, back into the conversation about the Top 3 biggest Pro Wrestling promotions in North America.
Anthem made the decision to terminate his contract as they wanted one of their corporate suits in the company's top position for the purpose of merging TNA into it's entertainment division and having the TNA brand more in-line with the parent company (rumoured by the way but sources, close to the situation, have pretty much indicated that this is the reason).
If that is indeed the reason for Scott's firing then why couldn't Anthem merge it and still keep him on board considering how much he's put into that company and how much he turned it from being one of Pro Wrestling's biggest laughing stocks to one of the most respected promotions in the industry???
This is just another sad sign of how the Pro Wrestling business is focusing less, and less, on what it's actually all about...Pro Wrestling.
Yes we understand that, at the end of the day, it is a business but by removing guys who actually know the wrestling side of the business, and can work that aspect of it, and replace them with corporate suits, who know nothing about Pro Wrestling, is just highlighting the problem with larger companies owning Pro Wrestling promotions as, truthfully, they don't understand it and never really will.
If you think TNA's 'Hogan/Bischoff' era was their big move into WCW territory then you're sadly mistaken as this move might just be bigger.
Anthem might have money, and resources, but they're no TKO Group or Ted Turner conglomerate.
To us this move would be the equivalent to if ECW was purchased in 2001 by, let's say, Interscope Records (Jimmy Iovine had a pretty decent relationship with ECW in their dying days) then they fire Paul Heyman and replace him with one of their guys...it would make no sense!!!
The fans, and even talent, want Scott back and we truly believe that this will greatly affect TNA.
On that note we must applaud Anthem for keeping the ghost of WCW's later days alive and well through what can only be described as a truly stupid idea!!!
So from all the TNA fans, all around the globe, we say "BRING BACK SCOTT FUCKING D'AMORE"!!!
Also we will no longer be sharing the weekly episodes of TNA 'Xplosion', going forward, on our site, every Wednesday, out of support for Scott (not that Anthem would overly care if we did or not anyway).
