Chucky Edwards Presents Chucky's Report #4 - Mister Boxer!!!
What's good everybody and welcome back to the latest edition of 'Chucky's Report'!!!
This time around I'm featuring, North Carolina based, Hip-Hop artist (and DeckHead Records owner) Mister Boxer.
Mister Boxer hit my radar when I started working closely with R.A.W Media. If I'm being honest I wish I had found his music a lot sooner as I quickly realised what I had been missing out on.
His smooth, effortless, flow instantly caught my attention and I couldn't help but dive deeper into his catalog.
One of the tracks that really stood out for me was 'Single Father Freestyle' because, even though I'm not a father, it encapsulated how I would feel perfectly. The line that really struck me was "Lay a single fucking finger on my kid and I can guarantee nobody will find you." I highlight this particular line as I know I would do absolutely anything for my family and it was a great insight to his though process.

In a similar vein I really enjoyed the first installment of his new 'Letters To My Cubs' series. I really appreciate how open he is on it and the message he's sharing with his child. I look forward to hearing more of this spoken word/poetry based material and seeing what topics he touches on.
Before we wrap things up I will be conducting an interview with Mister Boxer to discover more about the man behind the music.
Chucky Edwards - Firstly thanks for joining me today. For my first question I would like to ask what got you into music?
Mister Boxer - Peace, Chucky! Thanks for the opportunity. I grew up in church and my mother has always been in the church choir, so rhythms, time signatures and song structures have always fascinated me since I was very young. Public Enemy made me fall in love with how Hip Hop sounds and Run DMC’s 'Down With The King' album made me want to write raps.
CE - If you had to describe your music using only three words, what would they be?
MB - Thoughtful, selfish, and evolving
CE - How do you stay motivated and passionate about your work? Also do you have any advice for others related to this?
MB - I’m learning to be more confident with using different cadences on different styles of beats. The learning process itself is exciting, and new experiences bring new ideas for lyrics.
CE - I know you recently start a new series called 'Letters To My Cubs' what was the first thing that inspired you to these?
MB - I heard a poem that reminded me of my daughter so I decided to start recording all the things I want to tell her when she’s old enough to understand me a little better. Won’t be long since she’s already 9 years old!
CE - If you had the opportunity to collaborate with any artist, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
MB - Kendrick Lamar or Ghostface Killah. I think we could tell an amazing story about ANYTHING!
CE - What would you say has been the biggest highlight of your musical journey so far?
MB - The biggest highlight has always been the feeling of somebody finding my art and actually enjoying it. That feeling never gets old.
CE - For my last question I would love find out more about any potential music you are currently working on.
MB - Currently, I’m working on more verses over some of Bean’s instrumental loops which is great, lyrical, exercise and sometimes we come up with something that feels really good. There’s more to come but I’ll save that for now.
I want to say thank you to Mister Boxer for taking time to answer my questions. It's massively appreciated.
As we conclude this instalment of 'Chuckys Report' I will leave you with a links to DeckHead Records Bandcamp and YouTube channel in which you can find loads of Mister Boxer's music!!!
